Privacy policy

Who we are

Konduct Pty Ltd (“Konduct”, “we”) publishes knightborn.au for the Knight family. This policy explains how we handle personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Konduct chooses to meet this standard for KNIGHTBORN even where a small business exemption might otherwise apply. It is a family publication, not legal advice.

This policy covers

The public website at knightborn.au and messages you send us about the archive (corrections, photographs, introductions). Access to the private family workbook is by invitation. We do not sell accounts.

What the public site holds

• Names and life dates of deceased people, where we have them.
• Relationships already in the vault.
• Stories, pictures and film chosen for publication.
• The open identity conflict (C-001) in public language.
• First names of some living people, without dates of birth.

What we collect when you contact us

If you use Write to KNIGHTBORN or Share with someone we collect what you type: your name and email, who you are connected to, the note and — if you introduce someone — their name, email and company or household. We also keep that you agreed we may store it.

We collect this because it is reasonably necessary for our functions (APP 3): to answer you, to send the brochure introduction you asked us to send, to know who asked us to write and to keep a record of family correspondence. That is the primary purpose (APP 6). We do not use it for advertising. You do not have to give this. If you do not, we cannot send the introduction or reply.

Share with someone opens your own mail app. Konduct is copied at hello@knightborn.au. We keep the copy you actually send. This notice is how we tell you that at or before the time of collection (APP 5).

Where it is stored — the platforms we use

Konduct keeps correspondence on secure devices we control (work computers and encrypted backups) and in the hello@knightborn.au mailbox. The public site and the tools used to build it sit with processors whose own terms also apply:

• Konduct devices — laptops and backups we hold, used to read mail and update the vault (APP 11 security).
• Mailbox — hello@knightborn.au and Konduct company mail, including SiteGround where Konduct mail for konduct.au is hosted.
• GitHub — source code of the public site (United States). Visitor forms are not stored in GitHub.
• Vercel — hosts knightborn.au. May keep technical logs (for example an IP address) needed to deliver the page, stop abuse and keep HTTPS working.
• Grok / xAI — used to build workshop copies of the site. Grok is not a live form on knightborn.au and is not used to sell family data.
• WordPress on SiteGround — Konduct’s company website (konduct.au) is a separate installation. It is not the KNIGHTBORN vault.
• Family Drive — private working papers for the archive, by invitation.

Some of those processors store information outside Australia (APP 8). We tell you that here. We do not use them to sell Knight family data.

What we do not do

• We do not sell personal information to other companies.
• We do not rent, trade or barter family lists.
• We do not run ads against this site (APP 7 — we do not use this information for direct marketing).
• We do not hand living dates to other genealogy companies.
• We do not list children under 18 on this site.

A limited pack of deceased public facts may go to a named family researcher (including Tim Knight, Seattle) under the same living-date rule.

Cookies

See the cookie policy. No advertising cookies. Music preference stays on your device. A share or write message is correspondence, not a cookie.

How long

Public pages stay while they are part of the archive. Correspondence is kept as long as we need it to run KNIGHTBORN and meet record-keeping duties, then deleted or archived with the vault.

Your asks

You may ask for a copy of what we hold about you (APP 12), a correction (APP 13), removal of a living detail, or that we stop using an email you sent for introductions. Write hello@knightborn.au. Others may read what is published. They may not scrape the site for a commercial tree.

Complaints

Write to hello@knightborn.au first. If you are in Australia and believe a privacy law has been broken, you may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
